Teaching Within: Prospectus Design

Teaching Within is a proactive academic progression programme developed by Shades of Noir. It was created to address the under-representation of academics of colour within higher education.

Delivered across the University of the Arts London, the programme became one of the organisation’s core pillars, supporting a growing community of academics through teaching sessions, workshops and structured progression routes.

As the programme expanded, it required a clear identity and a suite of materials that could communicate its purpose, structure and impact across both print and digital environments.

My role

Alongside supporting programme operations, I led the development of the visual identity and communications for Teaching Within.

This included branding, prospectus design and the creation of resources across print and digital channels. I worked closely with Aisha Richards and the Shades of Noir team to ensure the design reflected the integrity and ambition of the programme.

Approach

The programme was layered and complex. It intersected with UAL’s PgCert structure, workshops, mentoring and support sessions.

My focus was on creating clarity.

I developed a visual identity and structured prospectus that could communicate how the different elements connected. The print prospectus was designed to translate seamlessly into digital spaces, ensuring consistency across recruitment materials, virtual learning environments and supporting documentation.

Operational systems and resource templates were established to support delivery, recruitment and long-term sustainability.

Outcome

The result was a robust and recognisable programme identity supported by clear, accessible communications.

The prospectus and supporting materials helped position Teaching Within as a distinct and credible academic pathway within UAL. As the programme grew, the brand and design system provided a strong foundation for expansion and long-term impact.
